A refuge takes root
Captivated by the beauty of the Costa Rican Caribbean, Wolfgang Bissinger founded Playa Chiquita Lodge: the first and only hotel in the Playa Chiquita area of Talamanca at that time. A refuge in exuberant Caribbean nature.
Founded in 1985 by Wolfgang Bissinger as Playa Chiquita Lodge, Caribbean Flow is a family run lodging and cultural meeting place rooted in the Costa Rican Caribbean.

Respect for the environment, sustainability and cultural exchange. We believe in responsible use of natural resources and integrating Afro Caribbean culture into every experience. Physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing are at the heart of our philosophy.
On Google Maps, you can also find us as Playa Chiquita Lodge, our original name.

Wolfgang met Wanda Patterson, originally from Cahuita and living in Germany. Together with their three children, they turned the lodge into their home.
Renamed Cabinas Caribbean Flow, the lodge became a meeting place for tourism and local culture, hosting the Festival de Música del Caribe Sur, African dance workshops and Caribbean cooking courses.
“Flow” is an anagram of “Wolf”, the name the local community lovingly gave Wolfgang Bissinger. Our name honours his relaxed spirit and deep love for the Caribbean. Caribbean Flow remains a living tribute to Wolf and his legacy.
